Below is a descriptions of places in the Simpsons' town of Springfield.

742 Evergreen Terrace - The Simpson Family House

At the center of a weirdly large percentage of the events that take place in Springfield are the unflappable Simpson family, comprised of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. Occupying a house in the "swanky" Pressboard Estates, the family lives next door to the Flanders family. There are many interesting things to note about the house. An especially note-worthy aspect of the house is the treehouse where many of Bart's antics have taken place. This treehouse was where the rare "Radioactive Man #1" was destroyed, where a plan of attack against local bully Nelson was formulated, and even housed two rare Bolivian lizards for a time. The treehouse has been destroyed twice - once due to a drill hitting oil far away, and another time due to a fire (the treehouse was then in a renovated state). The house has remained in its basic state since the Simpsons have lived in it - on occasion it has housed a telecommunications device, a family of carnies, or been host to a party celebrating an illegal cable hook-up, but has seen through it all to become an icon of cookie-cutter architechture.

Kwik-E-Mart

The Kwik-E-Mart is Springfield's one-stop source for all of citizen's convience shopping needs. The store is run by the friendly clerk Apu Nahasapeemipetilon, who works nightmarishly long shifts in order to keep the store open as long as possible. He is assisted by his brother Sanjay, who fufills his duties competently. The Kwik-E-Mart has been at the center of much town hysteria over the past decade or so, including a hectic stretch during which it temporarily converted to the "Freak-E-Mart" to house the mysterious "Frostillicus", actually local senior citizen Jasper. This temporary phase in the store's history also held other items thought to be occult, and caused business to flourish for a short time. Besides a short stint as the "Nude-E-Mart" directly after the Freak-E-Mart lost its main attraction, however, the Kwik-E-Mart has been a stable part of Springfield. The store has weathered any threats of its closing by forming a group of loyal customers - local families, shoplifting and/or stoned teens, and a populace of robbers responsible for manager Apu's eight gun-shot wounds. Overall, the Kwik-E-Mart seems to still be going strong, and the people and celebrities (including James Woods) who know and love it will keep the store's business steady.

Moe's Tavern

The only heterosexual, non-sitcom, non-occupation exclusive bar in Springfield serves as a haven for the town's working men. Employees of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant are known to frequent it, but various barflies and drifters of unclear origins, as well as complete alcoholics, appear there regularly. The propietor, Moe Syslak, has made the bar a second home not just for his far-too-frequently-there customers, but also for a variety of criminal underground activities, not limited to orca and panda kidnapping. Moe, a bartender by education with a muddied ethnic background, enjoyed his bar's greatest period of success when he stole the mix of a potent and great-tasting drink from Homer Simpson, a bar regular, and named it the "Flaming Moe". This boom in popularity, which grew so big as to attract rock superstars Aerosmith, promptly died when Simpson revealed the recipe for the drink to the patrons, which clogged the market with hundreds of imitators. Moe's was closed at one point due to the activites of the nefarious C. Montgomery Burns, who drilled for oil close to the bar, but Moe has consistently made enough money to survive from the bar, even branching out into family dining and espresso making.

Springfield General Hospital

For the ailments and afflictions of the inventive injured of Springfield, the Springfield General Hospital exists, serving to treat daredevil accidents, perform open-heart surgery, care for those unfortunate few who are assigned to the "Three Stooges Ward", and all the other typical, everyday maladies of a small town's citizens. Doctors such as town favorite Dr. Julius Hibbert are always on call, and are ready to accomodate almost any need, unless that need involves food, ample space, or advanced medicinal knowledge. However, morphine is readily and easily available, to the joy of the hospital's patients. Springfield General Hospital faces competition from private practices like those of Dr. Nick Riveria, which undercut the hospital on price, but the hospital's vast advantages in competence far outweigh the price difference. Recently, the hospital has been experimenting with alternative medical ideas, such as massage for atrophied muscles and outdoor surgery, which the hospital staff hope will increase interest in actually getting medical care for injuries.
